Metalux, curated by Jo Law and Redmond Bridgeman, and facilitated by Paul Boyé, is a series of experimental cameraless films and experimental video from 1990’s Western Australia. These works represent a scene of filmic experimentation with materialist methodologies, influenced by the late Peter Mudie. The program considers perception construction, identity formation, and structures of consciousness through an investigation of the material of film.

“[…] The program is divided into three sections: works that employ celluloid as a constructive base, those that involve a diverse range of media, yet use video as the final means, and those in which the relationship between visual representation forms the specific content. Rather than implying a narrative of technological progression, the structure and technical bricolage of the program suggests that technology forms a part of a wider investigative practice in these works. This takes precedence over simple ‘experimentation’ or ‘exploration’ as ends in themselves.”
