Professor Sarah Collins is the Chair of Discipline (Musicology) at the UWA Conservatorium of Music. Her research focuses on the relationship between culture, politics, technology, and broader intellectual and political currents. Her work draws insight from archival sources and contexts of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, bringing these into contact with contemporary anxieties around freedom, the environment, AI, and automation. It draws from cultural and intellectual history, philosophy, musicology, film studies, media studies, literary studies, and the history of philosophy and political theory.
Ross Bolleter and Eduardo Cossio are experimental musicians based in Boorloo (Perth) on Noongar Country. Ross is a composer whose work is focused on ruined pianos. Eduardo is a sound-improviser and visual artist.
Samuel Beilby is an artist based in Boorloo. He is the co-founder/co-director of the Boorloo ARI _____g.s (AKA Underscore Gallery & Studio), Gallery Associate at AVA Gallery and irritant with the mgmgmgmg collective. He is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Western Australia with a research focus on post-covid noise art.
mgmgmgmg (AKA mg) is an experimental art collective that write, perform and exhibit projects intermittently, largely driven by our shared interest and commitment to the artistic potential in worldbuilding, alternative cosmology and experimental lorecraft: all aspects of what is known by some as ‘speculative fiction’. At the core, we are constructing a story that endures against broad stretches of time, medium, environment and other contingencies. Eschewing the individualism of the author, our motivations are improvised and our commitments are variable. This particular iteration of mg comprises Chandler Abrahams, Paul Boye, Levi McLean, and Samuel Beilby.
